We left monte verde around 9:00 am. Our driver was real nice. He spoke a little English and seemed eager to share information about the trip as we went.
We headed out of town and as the road got more and more treacherous I noticed our driver said a prayer and did the sign of the cross. I am thinking to myself, what the hell is this journey going to be like.
It was slow and bumpy. Gina got to feeling a little car sick. I actually didn’t feel that bad this time.
The more we drove, the roads actually started to get better. Until we made it to pavement. That pavement turned into a small highway. That highway turned into freeways. Then I saw a sign for Denny’s. I knew then we were back to civilization.
As we got closer to San Jose, we got to see the pacific ocean.
The driver pulled over at the beach for a few minutes.
It was a bit of culture shock for us being back in a big city after spending a week at some of the most remote areas of the world.
I noticed my headache started to return. Too much stimulus I guess.
We walked to the local mall to eat lunch after we checked into the hotel.
They had every kind of American fast food available. It was crazy busy and everyone was dressed for a night on the town and it was only 1:00 in the afternoon.
It was a throw back to the 80s, this group of kids walked into the mall and clicked on the song eye of the tiger on their cell phone. They were strutting around like they were the shit with the song playing on the speaker phone. We couldn’t stop laughing.
We walked around to find a real restaurant because we were not ready to pollute our bodies yet after living on rice and chicken for a week.
We found a Persian mexican place that had ok food and what should have cost $20 cost us $45. Same with the hotel food.
Our hotel view, not quite a volcano.
So all we have been seeing are ads for Eat Eggs. Gina really wanted eggs for breakfast.
None to be found. The waiter never said one word to us gringos. Gina is over costa rica now since she couldn’t get her eggs. She won’t even speak Spanish now. I think she said screw it they can speak my language. I tried to catch her tude at the table but she smiled.
We have an hour to go before our ride to the airport.
Can’t wait to get back to our great country!
Adios Vacationes!
