So I told Gina. Let’s use the charcoal grills that they supply and make steaks. They will be better than anything we buy and the view is un beatable.

So we bought charcoal and a newspaper. It was windy as hell and I was determined to get this fire started. Soon I had an audience as all the patios face me with the ocean as the back drop. I also had purchased the cheap store brand charcoal. Didn’t want to light. My audience was getting some great entertainment as the sun was setting. The blue hairs were shaking their heads with a smile. I was determined to not be that young guy that couldn’t start a fire. I jumped in the car and went back to the store a couple blocks down and got charcoal fluid and a bic fire starter lighter because I was almost out of matches. I was determined at first to not use fluid because i wanted the natural fire flavor. But now I had something to prove to my audience. I think I was back at the grill within 15 min. I dowsed the coals and lit it. Took 3 dowsing but I had a good fire going. Blue hairs weren’t smiling so much now.
I grabbed a chair and a beer now and sat there and kicked back and smiled as I watched the sun set and stoked my fire. Smiling back at my audience. Then when the grill was good and hot I slapped the thick ribeye steaks on. The meat started to smoke and smell really tasty. I waited patiently and used my grandpa’s advice to only turn steaks once. They were really smelling tasty now. I had a couple old lady’s come out and sit at the end of their patio to “see the sun set “. They wanted to smell what I was cooking.
I made sure to make a big production of taking them off the grill so everyone could see the big thick cooked perfectly to a pink med steak.
They actually turned out just right and were very tasty on the charcoal grill. It was my first time making steaks on charcoal. I told Gina we need to take it up a notch tomorrow. They had hickory at the store. I told her we needed to smoke some baby back ribs all afternoon and show them how we eat in Indiana.
Who smiling now blue hair?
